5 Planning Tips for Your Next Landscaping Project

We also want to be a resource for our Florida customers — past, present and future — and educate homeowners and commercial clients throughout the year.

We've been part of the green industry for years, and we want to share the benefits of that experience with all of you.

To kick off the blog, we'd like to share with you a few things you should think about before you even begin the formal landscaping process. A professionally installed landscape is a big undertaking — and an important investment — so you'll want to be sure you've thought through as much of the process, and how it relates to your needs and desires, as possible.

Here are five things to ask yourself as you start thinking about a landscaping project:

Question #1: How much do I want to spend on landscaping?

For many people, budget is absolutely top of mind when thinking about any home project. A landscape installation should be no different.

Think about how much you're willing to spend not only on the professional services needed for the installation, but also on plants and supplies you'll need to maintain your landscape, as well as watering costs and other incidentals related to your landscape.

Question #2: What will I be doing within my landscape?

Think about how you'll actually be using your outdoor space. If you're looking to create something solely to enhance your curb appeal, your landscape plan will vary greatly from an outdoor living space that will be well loved and used by your whole family for entertaining and play.

(You'll probably be using it for a lot of different things… It's always good to keep an open mind and consider all the possibilities!)

Question #3: What style of landscaping do I prefer?

This is a loaded question for sure! But the basic idea here is to think about how you want your landscaping to feel and what it will look like.

Also think about how you envision your landscape integrating with the look and feel of your house and home. Will it be a seamless transition from indoors to outdoors, or will it be a night-and-day change?

Question #4: How much maintenance am I willing to do?

When all is said and done, this investment will be yours to take care of. How much time and energy are you going to spend on maintaining your landscaping?

Of course, there are landscape maintenance professionals (GreenEarth Landscape Services, for instance) who can take the care portion out of your hands. Which takes us back to Question #1: How much are you willing to spend on regular landscape maintenance?

Question #5: Do I want to install everything at once?

Planning your landscape is one thing, but if your budget and maintenance capabilities are limited, keep in mind that you can make plans to install it in tiers. You can build on as you go, according to your abilities!

Ask yourself what your priorities are and what you can realistically do. The landscape planning and installation process should be fun and exciting — not a chore that you dread!
